Japanese knotweed is a large, herbaceous perennial plant, native to
eastern Asia but now a prevalent invasive species in the UK including in some parts Shropshire.
If you have any Japanese Knotweed do not try to home compost this material and never put it in with your garden
waste collection either. This type of material should really be burnt on site under controlled
conditions being careful not to cause a nuisance with smoke.
Even soil containing
rhizome material is considered contamination so it must be disposed
of at a licensed landfill and buried to a depth of five meters.

Good advice. Burning on site is the easiest way to dispose of it for people at home, but its very important not to spread the Japanese knotweed, especially small parts of the rhizome which can get caught in the tread of shoes. It only takes a tiny part to regrow, so you need to be very careful.
